Spectrafilm is an excellent treatment for scars resulting from heart surgery, cesarean, abdominoplasty or breast reconstruction procedures. Spectrafilm is also recommended for management of older more persistent scars or large areas such as burn scars. Spectrafilm will soften, smooth and flatten most scars as well as reduce redness and return natural skin color. For areas of the body such as the face or hands where it may be difficult to wear sheeting material we recommend using Spectragel, the sheetless keloid and hypertrophic scar gel.
Spectrafilm is a highly conformable, clear, self adherent silicone gel sheet available in a variety of precut shapes designed mainly for scar sites covered by clothing. Spectrafilm can be trimmed to fit almost any scar that you prefer to use it on. Spectrafilm is reusable.
How long must your wear Spectrafilm?
You may start noticing your scar fading within two weeks. For others it may take longer, up to 1 month. The more you consistently wear Spectrafilm the more effective the results are in reducing the size of your keloid or hypertrophic scarring. Most people will see very satisfactory results from the recommended usage.
How does Spectrafilm work?
Although the mechanism of action for Spectrafilm is not fully understood it is thought that the hydration of the scar site may help create ideal conditions for softening and fading of scar tissue. Spectrafilm will not remove scars, since scars are permanent. When used properly as directed, Spectrafilm will help manage existing scar tissue and will reduce the size and discolored tissue created by the scar.
